Coors: Now Brewed on the Rock

First introduced in 1873, a Coors Original recipe is brought to this province to be proudly brewed and enjoyed right here

Jessica Vieira Teixeira, Brand Public Relations Manager with Molson Coors Canada, shares that there’s something to celebrate in this province when it comes to enjoying a cold beverage and bragging about where it’s made.

“Molson Coors Canada has brought the brewing of Coors Banquet from Colorado to Canada, and consequently, we relaunched it as Coors Original. What’s particularly exciting is that the St. John’s Brewery is the first Canadian brewery to create Coors Original in Canada,” she shares excitedly.

Only in Newfoundland

So Newfoundlanders, have been the first to have access to this historic brew. That privilege continues until early next year. “As to why? The Newfoundland brewery is a fantastic brewery; it is nimble and the team were willing and excited to take on the new project.”

Going through Newfoundland first had benefits. “The brewing team has done a great job matching the recipe and ensuring taste parity to what was Coors Banquet. So folks who have enjoyed the product previously will continue to enjoy.” Newfoundlanders are very familiar with Coors Light, a popular choice in the province. So what’s the difference?

“Coors Banquet, now Coors Original, is more full bodied. It’s inspired by the original Coors recipe. So you look way back to when it hit in 1873, the recipe has been tweaked over the years, but it’s a version of that original recipe.”

‘Welcoming & Accepting’

It’s a “crisp lager” she adds. A beer that goes well with almost anything. But the main thing to celebrate is that this province is the first, and only. For now.

“It’s an opportunity to highlight the St. John’s brewery team. They all worked very hard.” There’s been no compromise to quality. And being brewed in Newfoundland is something to celebrate.

“This is the first time Coors Original has been made and enjoyed in Newfoundland. And there’s signs and billboards saying, ‘Now Brewed on The Rock.’ So we’re excited and we’re thankful that Newfoundland has been so welcoming and accepting.”

Have been drinking Banquet for a long time and just tried the new Coors Original brewed in NFLD. It may be close but no cigar. Not impressed and want my Banquet back

Have always drank Coors Original or “banquet” but out of the bottle. Can’t hardly get bottles in New Mexico anymore. Cans don’t taste the same. Don’t like it. Most people I know that drink Coors drink bottles and won’t drink cans.

I purchased a 12 pack of Coors Original last summer thinking they were the same as Coors Banquet beer, but I was very disappointed at the difference of taste and will never buy Coors Original again. Coors Banquet are among the best tasting beer in the world but Originals brewed n Canada are a very poor imitation
