I went to the Labrador City Arts & Culture Center last night to hear Susan Aglukark sing. This is a wonderful concert experience. The music is lovely and the stories are enlightening. I wish more people would have got to see it but it was Super Bowl Sunday and Scotties Tournament of Hearts final draw so unfortunately it was far from a full house! Ms. Aglukark is to native rights, although on a much smaller scale, what Mohatma Ghandi was to Indian rights and what Martin Luther King was to African American rights. I hope her quiet voice gets louder and more widespread across Canada. Her message could go a long way towards greater equality and respect for Indigenous People. Hearing her speak and sing in her native language is fascinating. If you want a feel good evening, go experience this concert! ?
