What do you do when you reach the end of the line? If you happen to find yourself in North West River, Labrador, you call CRB Automotive, the subject of the new fact based series Last Stop Garage on Discovery Canada.
Owned and operated by professional mixed martial artist Collin Baikie alongside lead mechanic and longtime friend Corey Webber and feisty 4’8” shop manager Stan Oliver, the family run business is the saving grace for the remote community that resides on one of the furthest drivable points on the eastern seaboard.
“When I was 18 I started the business CRB, I just had this dream and a vision,” Baikie shared with The Herald ahead of the series premiere. “We stuck with it and sure enough Corey came to work around nine years ago and we were the same way then, taking on stuff and fixing it, providing a service for the community…”
A fair bit of ingenuity and creativity comes in handy when you’re dealing with as remote a location as North West River. Without an endless wealth of materials at their disposal, the CRB crew often have to resort to peace-mealing together what they have to get the job done. Take the debut episode of Last Stop Garage, for instance, where the boys create a ‘skiddertowtruck.’ Yes, it’s as cool as it sounds.
As to what viewers can expect from Last Stop Garage and the good ol’hard-working boys at the CRB, expect honesty and vivid realism. These guys hold nothing back and aren’t in the business of putting on a facade for the cameras. What you see is what you get, and what you get is television gold.
“We wanted to make sure we give the viewers something special,” says Baikie. “We want to give them a little something of what really goes on. Me, Corey, Stan and the rest of the crew, we always pushed it as hard as we could to make sure that we got that the viewers wanted to see. I really hope from all the hard work that we put in that people will really appreciate the stuff we put out. It was a lot of fun making it, a lot of work, and I think the world is going to get to see something different and I hope they enjoy it.”
Last Stop Garage airs Mondays at 10:30 p.m in Newfoundland on Discovery Canada. For the entire uncut interview with Collin Baikie of Last Stop Garage check out the upcoming issue of The Newfoundland Herald, in stores and online October 30th.
