Former Federal MP and Cabinet Minister Judy Foote is set to become the first-ever female Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador. An official announcement is expected to be made later today.
Foote stepped away from cabinet and resigned as a Liberal MP in August of 2017 due to personal reasons.
She will step into the role currently held by Frank Fagan, who is in the final year of his mandate.
Born in Grand Bank, she was the Liberal MP for the riding of Bonavista-Burin-Trinity from the 2015 federal election until her resignation in 2017 and previously representing Random-Burin-St. George’s. She was the federal Minister of Public Services and Procurement from 2015 to 2017.
Much more to come on this developing story.
