Made Right Here: Chatters Salon & Spa

When body and soul needs attention, a day at the spa can always hit the spot

Even though Christmas may be the most wonderful time of the year, all the hustle and bustle that comes with it can weigh heavy on the mind, body and soul.

Pre-holiday TLC

While there’s little doubt sticking a gift card for the spa of your loved ones choice may be a win when uncovered amongst the goodies this or any Christmas, Meghan Husk, Spa Manager at Chatters on Kelsey Drive, has some wise words for anyone out and about this holiday season.

“Don’t forget to pull away from the madness, for a while at least, and have some pre-holiday TLC before the big day arrives. It’s deserved, and being pampered is just as special and important this time of year, maybe even more so,” she says with a knowing smile.

There’s so many ways to indulge, she teases as she takes this writer through many of the delights offered at their peaceful, luxurious and oh-so friendly spa. From tantalizing eyelash lift and tinting to eyelash extensions (from experience, the results can last for weeks) and  rejuvenating facials to glorious something-to-write-home-about massages performed with (sigh!) hot stones, this is one spot where the ills of the day (or week, or month!) can wash away, leaving you refreshed and renewed.

Lesley Vincent, District Manager, says the goal of a full-service salon  like Chatters, a franchise with three other locations in the province, is to be exactly what’s needed when needed.

“You can come in looking to change your look with a new hairstyle, and leave with a whole new outlook because of one of our relaxing spa services,” she shares knowingly.

Esthetician Stephanie Skiffington knows exactly what she means. “Right or not, what’s on the outside is what people see. While it’s always what’s on the inside that matters most, often when you look good, you feel great too,” she says.

‘We’re a Family’

Stylist Stephanie Somerton smiles as she applies some curls to yours truly. The transformation has taken place; from drab to fab in minutes,  this writer jokes. Somerton says she isn’t about to take all the credit.

“We’re a team here, maybe even a family,” she says, adding that having everyone on staff feel the same passion helps with the bonding. “We’re in the service industry, so making the client feel great is as important as making them look their very best,” she says.

There’s more than just the friendly staff, spa and salon services available at Chatters; there’s also a fully stocked retail side where everything from shampoo to styling products can be purchased.

Husk provides a tour, making suggestions and answering questions about products along the way.

“We try really hard to know as much as we can about our products, and our clients. A facial isn’t just about cleansing the face, for instance; it’s about understanding someone’s lifestyle, doing a full skin analysis and then creating an environment where a client feels relaxed,” she says.

The staff gather to celebrate another happy client. Somerton says she loves working in a work environment where everybody is so supportive and smiling; though she says her job comes with many rewards. “Seeing smiles in the mirror, that’s always the icing on the cake.”
