Local music legends Sandy Morris and Anita Best are set to release a collaboration decades in the making. The respected duo will unveil a 16-song collection, fittingly titled Some Songs, at the Inn of Olde in Quidi Vidi tonight at 7 p.m.
“We used to play a lot of live gigs mostly,” said Best in a sit-down with The Newfoundland Herald. “Sandy was always involved with so many other bands. I was involved with Pamela Morgan. The two of us were going our ways, so we never ever did a recording.”
“We reached the point in our lives where we realized if we didn’t do a recording we’d have this whole body of work that would be lost for all eternity,” adds Morris.
The collection includes a mix of traditional ballads and local favourites from the likes of Ron Hynes and Mark Walker.
Best and Morris will also perform a free set at Fred’s Records in downtown St. John’s on Saturday April 7th at 1:00 p.m.
Stay tuned to The Newfoundland Herald for our full extensive interview with Best and Morris.
