NEWS | Growlers ‘Suspended’ from former Mile One Centre ‘Pending Investigation’

St. John’s Sports and Entertainment Limited has suspended the Newfoundland Growlers home games – which were set to begin on Friday November 5th – due to a workplace investigation, according to a release from SJSEL and Mayor Danny Breen.

“Deacon Sports & Entertainment Limited (DSE) has been informed that their rights and privileges under the terms of the lease –including access to the premise – have been suspended pending the outcome of a formal investigation by a third party investigator,” the announcement read.

“Employees of SJSEL have brought forward allegations of disrespectful workplace conduct against staff at DSE that must be fully investigated,” shared Breen. “Given the seriousness of the situation we have no choice but to take this action. While we know this is disappointing to hockey fans, the health and wellbeing of of our employees is our top priority.”

Earlier this year, the city and Growlers reached a three-year lease agreement, but their ongoing issues remained contentious and in the public eye.

Undoubtably more to come.
